Dr. Visit - 21 weeks 5 days

Around 18 weeks we went in for our anatomy scan. They check all of the organs, facial features, weight and bone lengths. This is when they can tell if there are any heart defects or problems with brain development. The tech said they looked very good! One was 10 oz and one was 11oz. So basically I have 1lb 5oz of baby and who knows how many lbs of fluid. It's getting pretty heavy!!!

I went to the Dr. yesterday for my normal visit with my OB. He said everything is great and all of the tests came back normal (phew!). The boys are both doing well - he checked for their heartbeats on a quick ultrasound.

I go back in a month where they will schedule another anatomy ultrasound to make sure they are still both growing at the right pace. After that I believe I start going more often to check growth and positioning.

Poop gets in there?!

So Phil and I are sitting on our couch, having a conversation tonight and I tell him that because I'm having a c-section he will probably be a pro at diaper changing since he will be doing most of it in the hospital, since I can't "jump" out of bed to do it. I proceed to tell him he's lucky we are having boys because it's much easier to clean a poopy diaper. I told him you have to make sure to wipe from front to back with a girl and get it out of a lot more crevices! He said "Wait, their poop gets in there?!" My answer: "Oh Phil, poop will be everywhere, on legs, on hands, on feet, and on you!". His face was priceless... this should be interesting :-)

Ultrasound Video

Phil uploaded our ultrasound video to YouTube. You can see it here. You can see the thin line that separates them around the 4:00 minute mark. Baby B is punching it so it's moving.

Its amazing what 4 weeks will do...

Here I am at 12 weeks...

Here I am at 16....

This should be interesting at 38 weeks......

It's two.....BOYS!

Today, we went to an elective ultrasound place, First Look UltraSound. My parents were in town and Phil's parents drove in for the ultrasound and lunch. We were all able to go in a room where there was a big flat screen TV. I laid on a table in the back of the room, while the family sat on the couches that faced towards the TV. Phil sat next to me on a couch. It was a very cool set up.

I was nervous the whole way there, like I always am on the way to an ultrasound. We hadn't seen them since 13 weeks and I just wanted to see their little hearts beating. She turned on the TV and we saw two heads. I noticed they were moving so I knew they were OK. She proceeded to show us both babies and tell us the gender. She was very animated so it was neat to have someone doing the ultrasound who was interested in the cute positions they were making. It was SO different from a doctor's office, because they are just doing it for medical reasons, where this is clearly for fun!

Their little heads, cuddling :)

We can't wait to meet our little boys!!!

There really are two babies in there!

So today we got to go in a see the babies again. WOW, they have grown! We were doing a scan for their measurements to make sure they were growing at the right pace and there weren't any visible abnormalities. The Dr. said everything looked great. I had to lay there for about 20 minutes but phil got to watch the whole thing. He said they would kick off the sides of me and were bouncing all over the place. I wonder if that's a sign of how they will be when they get here :)

The Dr. scared me for a bit! With twins there is a risk for something called Twin to Twin transfusion. From what I understand if there is no membrane between the babies in the womb then one baby is basically the donor of blood to the other baby. When born, it would most likely cause problems from the baby receiving the donation. This can be very scary and the Dr. could not find the membrane after about 20 minutes. Of course she started to tell me she was getting worried - not good. I start to cry... then she finds it! PHEW! So we are in the clear. She did say that she thinks they will be identical because of how close they are together.

Here's our beans at 12 weeks 6 days. I guess they don't look like beans anymore- I need a new name :)

First Ultrasound

Well, technically this is the second ultrasound. The first time I went to the doctor was just for a check- up, but because I am an impatient person I asked for an ultrasound. The tech warned me that we may not be able to see anything because it was so early, but I didn't care. Of course after seeing nothing but a sac made me anxious for this next visit.

This time Phil came with me and I was just hoping our little bean would have started forming and we could see something. The nurse turned off the lights and then turned on the screen. I could see there was definitely more to see than last time.... The words that came out of my mouth were: "Are there TWO in there?!". She said... well that's what I'm trying to figure out. My second question was "There aren't THREE are there?" She confirmed that the third did not have a heartbeat, it was part of the other baby (on the left).

So I look at Phil, expecting him to be freaking out, and he's more calm than me! Don't get me wrong I am excited, it's just all very overwhelming when you first find out there is not only one human growing in you but two. Here is a first look at our two beans :)

We're Pregnant!

After taking about 5 tests (to make Phil really believe it) we finally went out and bought a digital one so it would say "YES" or "NO". The faint lines were just not cutting it for Phil on the other tests, and frankly, he was raining on my parade so we went and spent more money on a digital one!

It said:

PREGNANT!!!

We are so excited to start on this adventure :)
